I am not Safe in my own Country!

on

Yes, I felt so bad, so embarrassed to write this caption for my article. But this is what the truth is! Being a woman, being a mother of a girl, this is what I really feel for my country these days. No woman or girl is safe in India now a days. Every now & then we hear the news of Rapes & Gang-rapes. Gang-rapes have suddenly become a new way of entertainment for Indian men (when referring to Indian men I don’t mean each & every man in India it’s a general word used for those SICK persons).  I don’t understand what pleasure or satisfaction these sick people get when they do some heinous or barbaric acts with young & little girls? They destroy the innocent lives of girls who don’t even know what had happened to them, what is the meaning of being raped? What do they get when after raping a girl they beat her to death & take out her intestines by their bare hands? Why they do that? Rape itself is a devastating incident in a girl or woman’s life which tore their life apart into bits & pieces then what’s the use of being barbaric to them?

Our forefathers who fought for our independence, fought for women rights never would have imagined India to be like this. After 66 years of independence we are far away from being free.

Recently I read an article on CNN about sexual harassment in India. I thought of sharing that article on social networking site. But I felt so ashamed of sharing it just a few days after 15th August. Have we seriously got independence? No, we have not. I’m so scared in my own country. I’m no longer safe in my country. Sooner or later India’s name will be listed with countries like Afghanistan where there’s no freedom for women. We have to compulsorily sit in our homes if we want to die with Honor & Respect. Women in India are not safe even if they are accompanied by their husbands, fathers, brothers or any other male companions. We are no longer safe anywhere in India.

Our fore-fathers who fought for our independence, fought for women rights never would have imagined India to be like this. After 66 years of independence we are far away from being free; Freedom of enjoying ‘being a girl’ in this world. With this, I pray for all the women to be safe & happy & to be proud of what they are, what God has made them ‘The Creator of Life’!
